Tell My Tarot

Charmaine Frapp shared with me her wonderful site before I took my sudden detour from the aetherwebs. Her site Tell My Tarot has a lot of wonderful stuff to offer like haiku horoscopes, card of the day, tarot card meanings, and more, but the free reading page is really cool. There are five options to choose from to ask questions or learn more about the symbolism of the tarot. Please take a moment and pay her site a visit. 😉

Beautiful Decks: Wishful Thinking

Brom - Lost Gods

So a question was posed in a FB tarot group yesterday: If you could have any artist create a tarot deck, who would you pick? Hands down Brom. I think Brom’s work (pictured here) from his book Lost Gods would all make an incredible deck. The book itself is extraordinary and you should go get it! That aside, there’s just so much dark beauty and symbolism in his work that would lend itself to a tarot. I can dream. 😉 Check out Tarot Nerds on FB too. It’s a closed group so you’ll have to request to join. I’ve been enjoying myself going through it today.

State of the Attic!

Picture me standing up with hands on my hips, with a determined look on my face as I stare off into the distance. Maybe I have a cape blowing in the breeze behind me. Can you picture it? No? You just think I’m being weird? Ah well, I do like the dramatics. I just wanted to update those who have been writing my shoppe and my blog. All the business related stuff has been covered by Maggie (thank you Maggie!), but that does leave a lot of my personal correspondence and art inquiries tucked away in a folder to attack when I could. My online time has been very off and on at best.

I am getting caught up on conversations, requests, and things of that nature that Maggie didn’t feel she could properly cover. My left eye (the one I decided to get an up close look at the stairs with) has been blurry since the surgery where they put the plate over my broken orbit area. The surgeon warned me it would be a combination of the injury, the heavy numbing agents, and most likely tiny and hateful gremlins living behind my eyeball. So reading was a pain and I was warned to be weary of eye strain with the laptop screen.

I was given the thumbs up by my eye surgeon this past Wednesday. Yays! With some glasses and groovy eye drops my eye is fighting the good fight. Everything else is pretty much healed. The bethalynne beast lives to growl another day. The surgeon, who is also a plastic surgeon, mentioned he could help correct my heavy eyelids if I had problems with them to which I said “Not my bedroom eyes! What would I do in this world without my prized resting bitch face?!” And there were giggles, but I was totally serious.

Card of the Day: The Tarot’s Temperance

Attic Cartomancy

The Temperance card is a good card to meditate on. It’s a good card for me to study a little bit further and write a card of the day about. Why? With my accident there has been a lot of room for life and the world around me to kind of weigh down on me. However? It has not. With all that my body has been through and how beat down I should feel (and believe me, my head has been a bit weighed down by it) I still feel this overwhelming sense of contentment. This has helped me realize a few things: It will sound weird, but I think this more profoundly looking upon the somewhat aggressive and dark face of the beautiful and incredibly unique woman who offered her self portrait for my temperance card in my Black Ibis Tarot. There is a balance to be had.

The Temperance card represents the ability to find calm in stressful situations. You can channel coolness in moments of extreme not coolness. You can take a moment to take a breath, look down the long path, and find your place and be good with it. Through patience and calm you can walk through life and look at those things in front of you that would try to fuss with it all. It’s a place of understanding. This is how I’ve come to see it.

Can I tell you a secret? I’m a natural hot head. I’m the type of person who small flames used to set my inner fuse a spark and eventually led to horrible explosions. I come from a family of dramatic, aggressive, yell as oppose to speaking calmly type of folk. It has taken me much of my life to find the ability to take a deep breath and exhale before I react. This is no small accomplishment when you can see yourself as being the only chick in Fight Club. Had I not learned to relax a little and understand the ability to let go, these past few months of mine would have been a fight. A fight between my rage of circumstance and my own body. But I know it is better to just go with life, appreciate the positives around us, and let go of the anger. If I can recommend anything to you; when looking at the Temperance card take a breath, feel grateful for life, and take a calm approach to your life and move on.

The Isidore Tarot Doll Size Deck

I love dollhouses. I grew up with one at my grandfather’s house. He made it for my grandmother Eva and made it so detailed and intricate that the house even had working lights. From there I simply began to love small things, doll sized things. So it should come as no surprise that I wanted to make versions of my decks that are just the right size for small hands. So I offer to you my doll sized Isidore Tarot deck. It’s around one by one and half inches in size. I adore it! I’m offering it for sale from Nov 11th to Dec 5th. You can get all important details here. 🙂

ABOUT THE CARTOMANCER:Bethalynne is a Michigan native who spent much of her early life chasing the fae around her grandfather's nearly mythical fairy tale garden. When the fae weren't calling, the strange shadows in the closet were whispering. When it was finally suggested that she kindly bring herself down from the clouds (and out from those dark places) she turned her expansive imagination towards capturing her characters and their worlds through writing & drawing. The latter has led to her having a notable career as a professional artist and writer for the past twenty five years. She currently resides in southern Ohio with her husband and fellow artist Myke Amend. You can view her portfolio or visit The Attic Shoppe Trading Co. to see all of her unique things. :)
